A friend of mine asked me
can you explain Zen.
He again asked me, ‘Do you
know what Zen is? How one can practice the Zen meditation.’ I kept mum. I
simply can’t explain. This is the difficulty with Zen.
One can narrate many
stories of Zen masters, apparently stories may look absurd, sometimes
meaningless but they are said to explain Zen. Whatever the Zen master many say
or ask his disciple to explain is utter non sense.
You can explain philosophy
but not meditation. You can explain knowledge but not enlightenment.
I have seen many Gurus’ or
so called Masters they give discourse on scriptures. They talk on Upanishadas, Gita
, Shivism and trantra and make the people
more confused than before. These are learned, intellectual giants but they fall
short to be spiritual masters in true sense.
One may call them professors of Upanishada,
shivism or religious scriptures’/books. They are like athletes’ they may top in
individual performance, but what’s the use for the society. They may train you
to become another athlete. With due respect to these intellectual giants, my
sense is that the true masters are beyond any ism.
True Master does not give
you anything to learn, he proposes course of unlearning what so ever you have
learned till date. Masters prepares you
to free the mind from the conditions. He cleans the mind from unwanted dust, the
dogmas.
True master never asks for
obedience if somebody asks for obedience please escape from these dangerous
masters or gurus. They are in search of followers and not the disciples.
But in
presence of spiritual master, subtle obedience, a subtle discipline is created
without any manipulation .I have still to come across such a genuine master,
they are rarest of rare.
Zen wants you to be
present totally. No matter who are you, what you do, whether you are thief and
you are going to steal, if you get absorbed in it, you are totally with
stealing you are in meditation. For zen all that matter is totality, utter
concentration, absorbed, lost dunked into it.
It can be any activity;
meditation is not averse to any activity. Zen has no condemnation. It is the
same logic of tantric, if you are indulge in sex, you have to be totally absorbed,
lost dunked in to it, this transforms it to meditation. When you are utterly lost, ego
disappears.
Our mind is full of
thoughts, memories, desires, identifications, opinions, likes dislikes; I am
body, I am mind, I am intellect. When this garbage is thrown you simply remain choice
less awareness:
this j krishnamoorty called freedom, liberation.
Emptiness means
void. It has neither colors nor form. It has no pleasure or pain. It is you
think you suffer, you have never suffered and you have never enjoyed. This
reminds me of Rene Descartes famous sentence “Cogito ergo sum”. I think
therefore I exist. Means if I plainly do not think, then I do not exist.
You need to be aware of,
you are that choice less awareness: You need not go anywhere; nothing is to be achieved
nothing is to be practiced.
There are many things if
you were with me, you must have received, without being
said.
